Call us now, do not wait until morning

• A burning or electrical smell from the air handler or outdoor unit. Shut the system off at the breaker first, then call. This is the one genuine safety call on the list.
• Water pouring from the air handler or through a ceiling. A blocked condensate drain can put water through drywall in hours. Turn the system off and call.
• A commercial walk-in, freezer or ice machine losing temperature. That is inventory on a clock.
• No cooling in July or August with an infant, an elderly resident or anyone with a medical condition in the house. Say so when you call and we will treat it accordingly.
• A breaker that trips every time the system starts. Do not keep resetting it.
• Grinding, screeching or a loud bang from the outdoor unit. Shut it down; running it further usually turns a repair into a replacement.

Worth a call, but it can usually wait for a scheduled visit

• The system runs but the house is a few degrees warmer than setpoint
• One room never cools properly, which is almost always ductwork rather than equipment
• The house feels humid at the right temperature, which is usually sizing or airflow
• A higher-than-expected power bill with no other symptom
• A rattle or buzz that has been there for weeks

We would rather tell you it can wait than bill you emergency rates for something that can. If you are unsure which list you are on, call and describe it. That conversation is free.

Try these three things before you call

None of them require tools, and between them they account for a meaningful share of after-hours calls we get.

Check the breaker. Both the air handler and the outdoor unit have one, and there is often a separate disconnect box outside next to the condenser.

Check the float switch. Most Florida systems have a safety switch that shuts the whole thing off when the condensate drain backs up. If your system is completely dead and there is water in the drain pan, that is what happened. It is a real fault and it does need clearing, but it tells us what to bring.

Check the filter. A filter that has not been changed in months can restrict airflow enough to freeze the coil solid, which presents exactly like a refrigerant failure. If the indoor coil or the line set is covered in ice, switch the system to fan only for a few hours to let it thaw before anyone tries to diagnose it.

What happens when you call

You talk to someone who works here, not an answering service reading from a script. We ask what the system is doing, how long it has been doing it, and what anyone else has already told you. If it is genuinely an emergency we dispatch. If it is not, we say so and book you properly rather than charging you a premium to find out.

Our trucks carry the parts that fail most often, so a large share of calls are finished on the first visit rather than turning into a return trip for a capacitor.

Emergencies are where bad replacement quotes get written

At 11pm in August, with the house at 88 degrees, almost anyone will sign whatever is put in front of them. That is exactly when a failing system gets condemned and a new one gets sold.

We are a repair-first company. In an emergency our job is to get you running, and then to tell you plainly whether what we did is a permanent fix or something that buys you time. If a replacement is genuinely the right answer, it will still be the right answer in the morning when you can think about it. If someone else has already handed you an after-hours replacement quote, that is precisely what our second opinions are for.
