When to Call for an Air Conditioning Repair Service
Air conditioners almost always warn you before they fail outright. Catching the symptom early is the difference between replacing a part and replacing a system.
Unusual noises
Grinding or squealing usually means a failing blower or compressor bearing. A hard click on start-up is often the contactor. Both get worse, and more expensive, if you keep running the system through them.
Weak cooling
If air is moving but the house will not hold temperature on a 95 degree afternoon, you are looking at a refrigerant leak, a dirty coil, or a compressor losing capacity.
High utility bills
A bill that jumps without a change in habits means the system is working harder than it should. In Florida that is usually a restricted coil, a duct leak in a hot attic, or low refrigerant.
Uneven temperatures
Rooms that never cool point to duct leakage, crushed flex duct, or a system that was undersized for the space when it was installed.
Water around the unit
Almost always a clogged condensate drain, and the most common AC call in Central Florida. Cheap to fix now, expensive once it reaches the ceiling.
System never shuts off
Continuous running in peak summer can be normal. Continuous running in mild weather is not, and usually means low charge, a failing thermostat, or a system that cannot meet the load.

What Actually Fails on Orlando AC Systems
Central Florida is one of the hardest climates in the country on air conditioning. Systems here run close to nine months a year and carry a humidity load most of the country never sees. That produces a predictable set of failures, and knowing which one you have is the difference between a service call and a system replacement.
Clogged condensate drain lines
The most common AC service call in Florida, and one of the cheapest to fix. Your system pulls gallons of water out of the air every day. Algae and dust build up in the drain line, water backs up, and the float switch shuts the system down to prevent ceiling damage. If your AC stopped and there is water near the air handler, this is usually why. It is not a failed system and it is not a reason to replace anything.
Capacitor and contactor failure
The most frequent electrical fault we see, especially after storm season. A failed run capacitor means the compressor or fan motor hums but will not start. Central Florida afternoon thunderstorms, and the surges that come with them, shorten the life of these parts considerably. Both are inexpensive components, and both are routinely used as the excuse to sell a new system.
Refrigerant leaks
Low refrigerant is a symptom, not a cause. A sealed system does not consume refrigerant, so if the charge is low there is a leak, and topping it off without finding that leak means you pay again next season. We locate the leak first, then price the repair against replacement honestly, because on some older systems replacement genuinely is the better answer.
Compressor and airflow problems
Weak cooling with the system running usually points to airflow restriction, a failing blower motor, or a compressor losing capacity. These are the diagnoses where a second opinion pays for itself, because the gap between the real fault and a full replacement can run into thousands.
Attic air handler corrosion
Most Central Florida homes put the air handler in the attic, where summer temperatures and constant condensation attack the coil and the drain pan. Rust stains on the pan, or on the ceiling below it, are worth looking at before they become water damage.
Repair or Replace: What Actually Matters in 2026
Refrigerant rules changed on 1 January 2025. New residential systems sold in the United States now use A2L refrigerants such as R-454B and R-32 instead of R-410A. This has created a lot of confusion and a lot of pressure selling.
Here is the part that matters to you: your existing R-410A system can still be serviced, and R-410A is still available for repairs. A change in what manufacturers may sell is not the same as your system becoming unfixable, and on its own it is not a reason to replace a working unit.
The honest questions are narrower than most sales conversations make them. How old is the system, what does this specific repair cost, how much life does the repair realistically buy, and what does replacement actually cost once the new equipment and the labor are priced. We give you those four numbers and let you decide.

We test and verify rather than judging a system by its age or its badge. Sometimes the first company was right, and we will tell you that plainly. Often they were not, and the repair costs a fraction of the quote you were handed.

Do you charge for a diagnostic?
Yes. A proper diagnosis takes time and test equipment, and we would rather charge for it than bury it in a repair you did not need. On second-opinion visits the fee is credited if you go ahead with the repair.
Will you try to sell me a new system?
No. We are a repair-first company. Replacement comes up only when the cost of the repair against the remaining life of the system makes it the better choice, and we show you the numbers behind that.
My system is over 15 years old. Is it worth repairing?
Often, yes. Age alone is not a diagnosis. We have returned plenty of older systems to good service for a fraction of a replacement quote. What matters is the specific fault and what it costs to correct.
